The Australian Alps
and related regions

The Australian Alpine Region is a globally significant area of unique flora and fauna.
It contains rugged wilderness with wild river valleys, snow capped peaks and wide high plains.
The region stretches from from Gippsland in the south to Canberra (the national capital) in the northeast.
In summer, the area is always cooler than other regions and is wonderful for bushwalking and cycling.
In winter, snow usually blankets areas above 1200 m and is a wonderland for skiing and snow camping.
